Dead Space 2 deserves huge credit for its gorgeous visuals, action-packed set pieces and tight gunplay.

One aspect of Dead Space 2 stands out more than all of them, however - the way developer Visceral Games uses environmental storytelling to gradually reveal the fate of The Sprawl’s residents and their children.

Isaac Clarke’s attempts to escape a horrifying necromorph outbreak may take centre stage, but it’s the background tale of the struggle for power between the Church of Unitology and EarthGov which shines brightest.
