Protests at IIT Delhi entered their fourth day on Thursday over the death of MSc Physics student Rishikesh Kumar, who allegedly died by suicide on 22 August after falling from the institute’s Lecture Hall Complex.
Students have been demanding a transparent and independent probe into the circumstances surrounding his death, along with greater accountability from the institute on student welfare and mental health support systems.
Following the protests, IIT Delhi reconstituted its inquiry committee and appointed retired Delhi High Court judge Justice Mukta Gupta to head the panel. The Delhi Police has registered a case of abetment to suicide against unknown persons, while investigations into the circumstances leading to Kumar’s death continue.
