In Three Girls from Bronzeville, Dawn Turner crafts a uniquely American, uniquely Chicago story of race, fate, and sisterhood. Set in the historic South Side neighborhood where the award-winning novelist and former Chicago Tribune reporter grew up, Turner’s memoir explores her childhood in the wake of the civil rights movement. Join Turner and former Chicago Tribune colleague Dahleen Glanton as they discuss the story of three girls from Bronzeville, whose life paths took dramatically different turns. Their story powerfully illuminates both the particular and ubiquitous nature of our city and our country.

The composer Richard Wagner is both revered for his visionary operas and reviled for his anti-semitic writings. In Wagnerism: Art and Politics in the Shadow of Music, Alex Ross details the composers wide-ranging influence across 150 years of art and culture. The New Yorker music critic and author of Pulitzer Prize finalist The Rest Is Noise traces the impact that art can have in the world, and explores the thorny question: How do we grapple today with an artist with such a many-sided and problematic legacy? Ross is joined by Esa-Pekka Salonen, Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor for London’s Philharmonia Orchestra.
