The composer Richard Wagner is both revered for his visionary operas and reviled for his anti-semitic writings. In Wagnerism: Art and Politics in the Shadow of Music, Alex Ross details the composers wide-ranging influence across 150 years of art and culture. The New Yorker music critic and author of Pulitzer Prize finalist The Rest Is Noise traces the impact that art can have in the world, and explores the thorny question: How do we grapple today with an artist with such a many-sided and problematic legacy? Ross is joined by Esa-Pekka Salonen, Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor for London’s Philharmonia Orchestra.
