🪨 David vs. Goliath (The Part Everyone Knows)
We get the iconic showdown:
👉 Goliath — a massive Philistine champion
👉 David — a young shepherd with a sling
And yes…
💥 David takes him down with a single stone
To be fair:
👉 Sling weapons in the ancient world were no joke
👉 A well-placed shot could be deadly
So surprisingly…
👉 This might be one of the more plausible moments in the story
…but don’t get too comfortable.
🤨 The “Champion Battle” Problem
The entire setup is:
👉 One champion vs. one champion
👉 Winner decides the outcome of the war
Sounds epic.
But logically?
👉 It makes zero sense
Because if you brought an entire army to battle…
👉 You’re not just going to surrender because your one guy lost
That’s not strategy.
👉 That’s fantasy storytelling.
⏳ 40 Days of… Waiting?
Both armies just sit there for:
👉 40 days
While Goliath walks out daily like:
👉 “Who wants to fight?”
And everyone just… waits.
No attack.
No strategy.
No movement.
👉 Just vibes.
🤯 Narrative Contradictions
The text can’t seem to decide what’s happening:
Are they waiting for a duel?
Or actively fighting a battle?
It literally says both.
👉 This is what happens when multiple traditions get mashed together without cleanup.
🧠 Saul Forgets Who David Is?!
After David kills Goliath…
👉 Saul asks: “Whose son is this?”
Problem:
👉 He already knew David
👉 David literally worked for him
👉 He was introduced earlier as the son of Jesse
So either:
💥 Saul has memory issues
💥 Or the story has consistency issues
😈 “Evil Spirit”… From God
We get repeated claims that:
👉 An evil spirit from God torments Saul
Leading him to:
👉 Try to murder David… multiple times
So let’s be clear:
👉 God sends the problem
👉 Then the story treats the reaction as the issue
That raises some serious theological questions.
👑 David’s Rise (And Saul’s Jealousy)
David becomes:
✔️ A military success
✔️ Loved by the people
✔️ Praised above Saul
Which leads to:
👉 Saul trying to kill him
👉 Then promoting him
👉 Then trying to kill him again
Make it make sense.
🧬 Jonathan & David — “Best Friends”?
The text says:
👉 Jonathan loved David “as his own soul”
👉 Their souls were “bound together”
👉 They made a covenant
At minimum:
👉 This is an unusually intense relationship
And the narrative tension around it…
👉 Raises some very interesting questions.
🩸 100 Philistines… and Their Foreskins?!
Saul demands a bride price:
👉 100 Philistine foreskins
Yes. Seriously.
And David delivers.
Because apparently:
👉 This is how royal marriage negotiations work.
🏃♂️ Assassination Attempts & Escapes
Saul repeatedly tries to kill David:
Throws spears at him
Sends assassins
Tries to trap him through marriage
And David just keeps… slipping away.
🤯 Naked Prophetic Frenzy?!
Then things go completely off the rails:
👉 Saul and his messengers fall into “prophetic frenzies”
👉 And start stripping naked
Multiple times.
So now prophecy apparently involves:
👉 Losing control
👉 Getting naked
👉 And collapsing into chaos
That escalated quickly.
🎯 Bottom Line
These chapters highlight some major issues:
👉 Mythological storytelling dressed as history
👉 Contradictions within the narrative
👉 A God who sends harmful forces
👉 Wild swings in logic, tone, and realism
What starts as a legendary underdog story…
👉 Turns into a narrative that can’t keep its own details straight.
