As a kid, I used to see David Ashmole performing principal roles with the Royal Ballet at Covent Garden - he could be an ideal of the 'danseur noble' type.
In the 1980s, David came to dance with the Australian Ballet and there is a little footage about of him as Prince Desire in 'The Sleeping Beauty'.
Sadly, this lovely dancer died very young - at 59 from cancer.
In the first (snippet) of 1980s footage, Dame Alicia Markova coaches David Ashmole and Margaret Barbieri in ‘Swan Lake’.
In the second piece of film, choreographer David Bintley rehearses David Ashmole and Marion Tait in the studio, and then Ashmole is on stage in costume rehearsing the role of Mercutio, with Peter Wright the talking head.
