This is sort of a test run of a Calamity ring challenge I'm working on. Instead of setting up the challenge based on my own rules, I thought it might be better to get your input since you'll be the ones watching it. I've proven enough to myself already with this game, so for this playthrough I'd like to focus more on the entertainment portion. Something someone can just kick back and watch, not just to learn but also to enjoy. I want it to be challenging enough so that it's not a snorefest, but still have enough freedom to actually use a greater portion of the equipment available in the game.
Running through the game with limitations is a great obstacle to overcome, but it doesn't always mean it's fun to watch. My sl 5 naked run was the hardest I've done to date, but not very popular. My EPBTG series however had very little limitations, but is far and above my most popular series. The video I did with added music was a success as well so I'm trying to follow suit but make it sort of my "definitive" Dark Souls playthrough in what is most likely the final version of the game.
Do you just want me to run through the game with severe limitations? Do you want me only to limit my vitality, but be able to pump up my damage output and ability to wear decent armor? Should I have a set SL limit and simply make a build the best I can with those levels? Are there specific weapons that you'd like to see me use instead of the ones you've seen me play with already? Should I play the game with a theme in mind, like an assassin who uses bows, light weapons, poison daggers, etc.. Or perhaps play as Guts from Berserk, making my character look and dress like him and use a Zweihander or Greatsword? Or something else?
Watch the video and if you have any input or ideas then leave them as a comment. If you like someone else's idea then give it a thumbs up and hopefully it'll become obvious rather quickly what people would like to see. I can take those ideas and come up with a ruleset that everyone is happy with, then play through the entire game leaving in cutscenes and adding a soundtrack to make the game flow like a story. Hopefully in the end it'll be fun to watch while new players can see how a veteran handles the game and learn a few things.
Some of the possible rules I'm considering:
Calamity Ring equipped from the start and never removed.
No leveling (challenging but boring due to what I said above).
No estus upgrades or kindling bonfires
No health increasing items (rofap, mom, tiny being's ring)
No Elemental weapons
No master key(this video will show I can work around that limit)
All bosses killed, including optional ones like the Butterfly, Capra, etc..
For those interested, here are the music tracks:
1. Blow Up the Outside World - Soundgarden
2. Flood - Tool
3. Gravity - A Perfect Circle
4. For Whom the Bell Tolls - Metallica

I'm keeping an updated tab of some of the most popular ideas in a thread located here.
