Well, I'm back again, and this time I'm finally talking about Dark Souls 2. It's more of a general take on the game rather than a personal journey like I had with the first Dark Souls. As I had said, everything else that came after 1 had been a continuation of that experience. Dark Souls 2 is the black sheep of the trilogy. It's generally considered the worst of the three and yet is still a great game with some great directional movement, the best build variety and pvp in the trilogy, as well as some great DLC content. It still holds up well and people end up coming back to it for different reasons. Its the one I've played the most, with tons of hours in both the original and SOTFS. It's also different from the bunch, for better or worse. It's 100% still worth playing, even in spite of the bs areas like Iron Passage and Frigid Outskirts, Memory of the Old Iron King, Iron Keep and Shrine of Amana.
Notes:
- Difficulty is different for people in the Souls games. But DS2 is more on the frustrating and annoying side rather than something genuinely challenging like Sekiro. The annoying and frustrating parts of DS2 make the game hard and not necessarily in a good way. Most of the time, the boss runs are harder than the bosses themselves.
- You can change your gender in Things Betwixt by going into the large coffin.
- Fuck the optional DLC areas. The only one worth doing is Sir Alonne.
- My playthrough was a focused samurai build. There are plenty of crazy builds you can create. I'll leave a link for Mugenmonkey, a character planner website in the description.
- SL1 is beyond horrible in this game.
- Both the original and SOTFS have their differences. It boils down to what poison you're willing to swallow.
- Go to the second Black Gulch bonfire. Use Fire Arrows in the tar pits for easy Titanite Chunk farming.
- Bonfire Ascetic the Giant Lord bonfire for easy souls farming.
