Welcome friends, welcome back to the kitchen — and welcome back to What Was On Sale at the Grocery Store! It’s been a few months since the last episode, but we’re back with another fun, affordable cooking idea built around budget-friendly grocery store finds. This time, Glen’s starting with New Zealand ground beef that was on sale, and turning it into a rich, hearty bean and beef soup that’s more of an idea than a recipe — perfect for when you just want to use what’s in your cupboard.
In today’s episode, Glen talks about how grocery store stock has changed, with more imported meats showing up from New Zealand, Australia, and Mexico, and how he builds flavour with simple pantry staples: onions, jalapeños, beans, tomatoes, salsa, green chilies, and his secret ingredient — refried beans for that creamy, velvety texture.
This isn’t a recipe, it’s inspiration for home cooks — a reminder that cooking doesn’t need to be fancy or expensive. Mix and match what’s on sale, use what you love, and create something comforting, delicious, and completely your own.
Plus, a quick life update — Glen’s now officially an instrument-rated pilot, which means more flying adventures are coming soon on the Hangar channel: youtube.com/glenshangar
So grab a spoon, taste as you go, and join us for a cozy bowl of soup and some good conversation from the kitchen.
