Hey all, I'm back again with a new song! This time around, I really wanted to try getting this very heavy, very dark, sinister kind of sound. I wanted something that sounded very DOOM-like, something that would sound at home in some Hell level or something.

I'll admit, I got stuck for a bit, trying to think of how to make this. So for two days, I just listened to as much Alice in Chains, Pantera, etc. as I could. I figured, "What better place to look for inspiration than the bands that inspired the original soundtracks for DOOM I & II?".

I decided that for this one, I needed to down-tune an absurd amount: Drop-A. The lowest I've ever gone before was Drop-A#, for my cover of Victory (from DOOM), and for my original, "Heofones Mist (Sky II)" (from HORIZONS).

Originally there were going to be more clean parts, but after I recorded the rhythm guitars, I just chucked out the clean parts I had laid down when I started.

From there, I started making the lead guitar parts. I made heavy use of slow bends and harmonies. I wanted the leads to convey this sense of, "descending into madness". A mad, crazed, and dazed sort of feeling.

Around the halfway-point, I wanted to have a little change of pace. I used my rotary-speaker effect, since I hadn't used it in a while. Originally, I was going to throw in some pizzicato strings during this part, somewhat similar to my cover of "Adrian's Asleep". In the end, I decided to keep it a bit more minimal and simple.

Also, something that's new for my work; I made use of yells/screams. More correctly, my OWN yells/screams, since I've used scream sounds before in a couple DOOM covers ("DOOM" and "Opening to Hell").

The sample I used was actually from a short demo of a vocal cover I had made for fun. So, as the song neared completion, I went and threw in that yell/scream clip, threw some effects on it to help it sit back a little in the mix.

The outro part starting at 4:32, oh man, I really like this part. Despite the lead guitar melody being fairly easy to play, I really got into it! I also threw in some strings to accompany this section as well. I wanted to give the outro this hopeful sound to it, like, the character being able to finally break free of the madness.

Lastly, there's the little clean guitar part at the very end. I actually came across that on accident. I was trying to put down the notes for the VSTi Bass, and I accidentally had the wrong channel selected. So it wound up playing back the clean part from the interlude, but lower and slower. Upon hearing it, I was like, "Oo, I like it!". Also, yes, I used my VSTi bass, because the lack of string-tension in Drop-A would've made my bass strings sound and feel like, big, wet, noodles.

The wall of text about instrumentation stuff aside, ON TO THE NAME! So, as I mentioned before, I wanted to capture this feeling of, "descending into madness". 'Cuz, if we're being completely honest here, anybody would probably become a little batty, and nutty in the head if tasked with fighting the invading hordes of Hell.

I had envisioned Sin-Slayer getting into a battle with some kind of psychic monster/demon boss. For most of the song, I wanted to convey this dazed, disoriented, and angered state of mind, as Sin-Slayer tries to fight and resist all the mental attacks.

Nearing the climax, the outro kicks in at 4:32. I added the strings to give it a feeling of triumph. Our hero, through sheer willpower, finally begins to regain control of his thoughts somewhat. His maddening screams and yells both happening mentally and physically, as he proceeds to Rip & Tear this big bad boss that's been mindf*cking him this whole fight.

Then, just like that, it suddenly ends and the scenery goes back to normal. Our hero surveys the carnage before him, and goes on to continue his mission.

Anyways, there you have it! My apologies for writing such a massive wall of text in the video description here. I didn't mean for it to drag on this long!

I'm thinking that I might be able to have the whole album finished and released on Halloween. I should be able to make 5 or 6 more songs for this album if I stick to my current schedule.

Anyways, as always, I hope you all enjoy! ~DAR
