Cobra Kai is an American martial arts comedy-drama streaming television series and a sequel to the Karate Kid's original movie directed by Robert Mark Kamen. The series was created by Josh Heeld, John Harwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, who repeated their roles as Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence in the 1984 movie The Karate Kid. Thirty-four years later, the Cobra Kai examines the story of "Miyagi Verse" from Johnny's point of view, his decision to reopen the Cobra Kai Karate Dojo, and the resurgence of his old competition with Daniel. The Cobra Kai also plays Xolo Mariduena, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Gianni Dechenzo, Martin Kove, Vanessa Rubio and Peyton List. This series boasts high ratings on both YouTube and Netflix and has received widespread positive reviews from critics. The third season was also nominated for an "Outstanding Comedy Series" at the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards. The first season started on YouTube Red in 2018 and the second season continued in 2019. After the production of the third season was completed, YouTube decided to stop producing the original scripted show and leave the show without a house. Netflix acquired the series in June 2020 and released the third season on January 1, 2021. Netflix expanded the series to the fourth season, released on December 31, 2021. The fourth season of the Cobra Kai was released on Netflix on December 31, 2021 and consists of 10 episodes. This series is a direct sequel to the four original films of The Karate Kid franchise, focusing on the characters of Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence, more than 30 years after the original film. Following the first two seasons on YouTube, Netflix will release the second season. There are 12 protagonists in the season, nine of which are back from the previous season, two are added to the main cast after being repeated in the previous season, and one is a newcomer to the series that repeats the role from the franchise. Daniel LaRusso is the main protagonist of The Karate Kid franchise. Daniel was a bullied high school student whose life changed when he was mentored by a wise karate sensei, who taught him both valuable life lessons and self-defense. Daniel used this training to protect himself and others, winning two consecutive karate championships and beating aggressive opponents that challenged him. Years after his initial training, Daniel married Amanda and they had two children Samantha and Anthony. The LaRusso's opened an auto-dealership called LaRusso Auto Group. Daniel also retired from karate and used martial arts as a gimmick to promote his business. When his high school rival Johnny Lawrence resurfaced and opened Cobra Kai Dojo, Daniel was inspired to teach Miyagi-Do Karate to a new generation of students, to combat the aggressive tactics of his nemesis. Their rivalry had higher stakes then before, and things escalated during a school fight that involved Daniel's daughter, Johnny's star student, and estranged son. The aftermath of the high school fight found Johnny and Daniel as reluctant allies. They were forced to join forces once again when John Kreese challenged their respective dojos in the All Valley Karate Tournament. He made peace with Johnny, and the pair teamed up to train their students in two styles of karate for the tournament. However, the two Sensei's conflicting personalities and styles, combined with the return of an old enemy of Daniel, led to their alliance falling apart. While Daniel and Johnny eventually reconciled, they lost the All Valley tournament. Now meant to honor a deal with a dishonorable man, Daniel went back on his deal and enlisted the help of an old friend to take down Kreese, Silver, and Cobra Kai once and for all. Chozen Toguchi is the main antagonist of The Karate Kid Part II and later a supporting protagonist in Cobra Kai. He was the top student of Sato's Dojo and eventually becomes the sensei of Miyagi-Do Karate in Okinawa. After reconciling with Daniel LaRusso, Chozen becomes his friend and ally in Daniel's ongoing fight with the Cobra Kai Dojo.
