Govee just released their new and most expensive Outdoor Prism Lights — a 200 ft kit that costs nearly $1,000 — but there’s a big problem.
While setting them up, I noticed that the included 82 W power supply simply can’t keep up. A single section draws nearly 8 W, and with 12 sections connected we hit a hard limit right around 80 W ! — exactly where the PSU maxes out.
Math says that ~8w x 12 Sections is nearly 100W demand, there is no way that this PSU can sustain the max demand of this kit and IMO this needs to be brought to attention and corrected for free for people who have purchased to help ensure safe and reliable installations.
Running your lighting system right at its limit can cause premature failure, flickering, or worse — and for the price, that’s not acceptable.
In this short test, I break down what’s happening, measure actual power usage, and show alternative power supplies that could fix the issue — I'll return when my Meanwell PSU is delivered and I have had a chance to test the actual max power draw of the lights. So for now despite the evidence I have on hand until I prove it with a definitive test, lets just call this a PSA...
