Are natural ingredients in historical makeup always safe and healthy? How has beauty science made clean beauty safer, and what cosmetics sshould we still be careful of ? Join me and Liz of @LizCapism as we deep dive into the wild, occasionally toxic, sometimes macabre history of makeup, beauty science, and cosmetic regulation! From the toxic and dangerous natural ingredients historically used in makeup and beauty products (hint! not what you think!) to what chemical additives in modern makeup are dangerous or toxic (hint! also not what you think!), we'll cover a broad overview of a complex topic. Liz and I have years of experience working in the beauty industry with makeup, cosmetics, and hair products, so we have a lot to say about what makeup lovers and vintage fashion enthusiasts should know about historical beauty and the history of cosmetic safety.

With the modern clean beauty movement promoting the use of presumably safe, natural cosmetic additives, and beauty scientists endorsing the use of some chemicals for skincare and beauty, it can be difficult to sort out fact from fiction with competing information. We can't tell you what the safest products are, but we can tell you how centuries of beauty history show the need to be a conscious consumer, and how beauty science has and has not made makeup safer and less toxic for us and the environment.
