Damon Johnson talks to Mark Taylor for Record Collector Magazine about his return as a solo artist and his final live shows as departing member of Black Star Riders.
Damon has an illustrious career as a guitarist, vocalist and songwriter for Brother Cane, Alice Cooper, Thin Lizzy, Black Star Riders and alongside his band-mate Ricky, in Warwick-Johnson.
His new solo album “Memoirs Of An Uprising” was released on 9th November 2018 following a PledgeMusic.com campaign and is also available via www.DamonJohnson.com, with the full retail release planned next year. The album features ten brand new songs, including co-writing credits with long-time collaborator, Jim Troglen (AKA Johnny Blade).
After six years alongside Scott Gorham and Ricky Warwick in Black Star Riders, recording three acclaimed studio albums and gaining a loyal and burgeoning fan base, particularly in the UK and Europe, Johnson is bowing out of the band to concentrate on the next stage of his career.
As such, the remaining BSR tour dates, will be his final performances with the band. He confirms in the interview that he will be sad to leave the band, but remains on very good terms will all concerned and will continue to work with Warwick as a songwriting partner, as well as appearing with the latest, but currently resting line-up of Thin Lizzy. Most of all, he's looking forward to reigniting his solo career and spending more time in the US, although he's keen to return to the UK in 2019 for live shows with his solo band.
