I spent summers at Avebury and Glastonbury tracking down crop circles as they appeared.
I wrote about them in my 2012 book, The Return of Quetzalcoatl.
And I came to agree with the British writer Patrick Harpur — these formations are tricksters.
They refuse to collapse into a single objective truth.

Harpur saw crop circles as what he called daimonic phenomena — events that operate at the seam between matter and imagination. Their purpose, he argued, is to deliteralize and deconstruct our conscious viewpoints, to teach us that the world we imagine we are in is only one among many ways the world can be imagined. After years of investigation I reached the same conclusion. Some phenomena will never satisfactorily collapse into a single objective truth — and that may be their function. They are here to break the spell of literalism.

What if some things refuse to be explained because explanation itself is the trap?
