![Genitivus Of Saxony - Song Wednesday #01
Part 2/5 of The Punctuation Situation in which Bud attempts to sing a song about the possessive use of apostrophes! There is a full band version (its much better), which you can download here!
http://theperfectplace.bandcamp.com/track/saxon-genitive
Sorry for the many mistakes and awkward jump-cuts, I didnt get much time to practice before recording and 27 takes was enough for me. ;-D
If you want to help me out and tweet this link or share it elsewhere, here is a handy little shortened URL: http://dft.ba/-genitive
Song Lyrics:
Have you met my friend, Mr. Genitive?
Hes a Saxon, through and through
Youll find him a little possessive
But thats actually good news
Because you might know him better as apostrophe S
And hes here to show you the way
And If your dont want your writing to turn into a mess
Come and hear what hes got to say:
Apostrophe S is the general rule
For showing what people own
But for a sybillant ending, dont ya be a fool
The apostrophe stands alone
Lets talk about the basic conception
For showing possession in writing
With not very many exceptions
Just add apostrophe S, how exciting [not really]
But when the noun that has possession ends with a sound
Like Z in Kids and S in Press
Use an apostrophe alone, no sense in making a crowd
By adding an additional S
[Chorus]
If Annie bought a new pair of shoes, those are Annies shoes!
If James owns a shrew, thats James shrew!
If you wanna refer to my terrible singing, thats Buds terrible singing!
If youre talkin bout what Jesus taught, those would be Jesus teachings!
If Sally has a tomato, its Sallys tomato
If Ed stole your potato, Id yell Hey! Thats his potato!
Remember how I previously mentioned
That there was an exception or two (or eight)
Well now that Ive got your attention
Lets talk about pronouns too
Youve gotta know possessive pronouns, dont be caught unawares
Theres only eight, not nine
Remember: Whose, his, hers, its, ours and theirs
And dont forget yours and mine
Apostrophe S is the general rule
For showing what people own
But for pronouns like yours, his, hers, and its too
The apostrophe stands alone
Apostrophe S is the general rule
For showing what people own
But for a sybillant ending, dont ya be a fool
The apostrophe stands alone
