Shannon MakesThis skirt has a 1940s silhouette, but with giant ,18th century pockets and an adjustable waistband to fit your body regardless of weight fluctuation... can it get any better than that?!
In this video, I will be taking a break from a longer project with a fun new history-bounding skirt pattern that I’m quite excited about! It’s the Coquelicot Skirt by Wildflower Designs, and there are SO MANY fun features in the skirt that get me excited! It truly seems like the perfect skirt for those who'd like some historical fashion mixed with a healthy dose of practicality and accessibility!
In addition to sewing the skirt, I also reached out to the pattern creator, Melanie, to see if she’d chat a bit with me about the pattern, the inspiration behind it, and her creative process. So join me as I talk with Melanie and get this skirt made up! #coquelicotskirt #historybounding #skirttutorial ----------------------

In this video, I share my design plans for renovating the bedroom of my 120-year-old Victorian duplex in Nova Scotia. I dive into my inspirations, limitations, and sources for materials, while using clips that didn't fit into the main video. Initially inspired by Scandinavian design, we take a look at my time living in Denmark, my bedroom there, and look at how I aim to recreate the cozy, minimalist style I adore in my new home. I show how I use Milanote, an organizational tool, to gather my thoughts, images, and inspirations into a cohesive plan. The design approach includes warm wood tones, natural materials like jute and plants, and a clean white and bright green palette. However, due to budget constraints and limited local resources, my final bedroom design took a shart U-turn and evolveed into a Scandinavian-inspired folk art style. I incorporated a thrifted duvet cover with vibrant colors and whimsical patterns as the centerpiece, and this broader color scheme allowed me to find matching thrifted items more easily. I also share my plans to upcycle furniture, such as painting a dresser with Norwegian Rosemaling patterns (although time constraints prevented me from completing it before leaving for a work contract).this could absolutely SAVE our moldy floorsShannon Makes2024-06-28 | 🌟Second Channel: youtube.com/@shannonmakessomethingelse

But as I was filming these house renovations adventures, in my 120 year old fixer upper, I had this nagging feeling that I was missing something. Like there was something I was forgetting to properly communicate, and it wasn't until reading some of your comments (and one email in particular) that it really hit me - I haven't really told you everything that's wrong with the house! It's practically falling apart, it's in total disrepair, and I haven't really mentioned anything about it, other than the lack of plumbing.
So today I go over the top ten most dire things in need of fixing in my Cheap Old House - from the roof to the foundation, and everything in-between!

DAY TWO in our new-to-us, 120 year old Victorian mansion in Nova Scotia. We found ourselves a free couch that fits very well in our Victorian era duplex. We (start) to install our secondhand water heater, we meet with a Home Energy Assessment, buy a secondhand fridge, and deal with the fact that we're still missing power in half the house.
An absolutely insane number of things happened to us one day one - there was water in basement, there was water pouring from the ceiling, we didn't have power in half of the house, or hot water in any of the house... it was a rough start! So we had to get our hands on a (used) water heater, start emptying out the basement, and start tackling the laundry list of things to do on the thoughtful renovation (restoration?! rehabilitation?) of this house....!

So we had to get our hands on a (used) water heater, start emptying out the basement, and start tackling the laundry list of things to do on the thoughtful renovation (restoration?! rehabilitation?) of this house....!
We arrived, walked around our house for the first time, found a roofer, a plumber, an electrician, started drying out the basement --installed sump pump-- discovered a massive leak (ceiling waterfall), located a water heater, and came one step closer to finalizing our plan for heating this house. Plus we also filmed that house tour you watched last week… not bad for a day’s work!

A long overdue VLOGmas update - where did all those crafts end up? Did I ever finish the crazy quilt stockings? What were my thoughts on the process of trying to sew and quilt while on the road and on a bus? Did I try any new stitches, and if so, what were they, and how did they turn out? Just general reflections on the whole crazy-quilting process and how I felt about it the second time around. I also managed to work my chicken scratch embroidery into the quilted pattern - you can even see a glimpse of it in the thumbnail! What about the blue knit jumper? Well, I had already made a LOT of progress on my knitting, finishing the back of the sweater I'm working on in a previous video, but now I realize that I have a question and a potential question for all the experienced knitters out there regarding color bleed, because these two yarns are VERY different colors, and I'm worried that the dark blue yarn will bleed into the white yarn when I try to block it, so any advice on that would be welcome. I'm very happy that I can continue work on the front of the sweater shortly. I also do one last Vintage Pattern of the Day session - this one is a bit outside of my normal time period (I usually prefer vintage patterns from the 30s and 40s), but these were pretty cheap and VERY fun, so when I saw them at a vintage sale for only $4, I grabbed them, and I can't wait to make them up for the summer!

I also made a LOT of progress on my knitting, finishing the back of the sweater I'm working on (pattern linked down below). I'm very happy with how it turned out, and my roommate was able to get more yarn for me so that I can continue work on the front of the sweater once I return to Montreal!
