❤️ Red Shiner – Cyprinella lutrensis

The Red Shiner is a colorful North American minnow native to the central United States and northern Mexico. In the wild, it inhabits creeks, small rivers, pools, and streams with sandy, gravelly, or silty bottoms—often in turbid, warm, and variable water.
Natural water parameters are typically around 15–25 °C, with a pH of 7.0–7.5 and medium to hard water. This makes the species highly adaptable, but in the aquarium it still requires clean, well-oxygenated water, effective filtration, and sufficient swimming space.
Keep them in a group of at least 8–10 fish. Males can display intense red-orange fins and metallic blue colors, especially during the breeding season. In the wild, they feed on small invertebrates, algae, and plant matter.
