The Maelstrom gang is probably the most dangerous and violent of the Night City gangs in 2077. They are of moderate size with an estimated member count of around 1300 people. They are fascinated by the Net and cybertechnologies, and frequently submit themselves to extensive illegal body modifications.

Almost all of them are on the verge of developing cyberpsychosis or have already gone cybernut.

Maelstroms are easily recognizable by their dehumanizing heavy augmentation with the classic red glowing eye pieces. Three notable members are Declan “The Brick” Griffin, Simon “Royce” Randal and “Dum dum”. From what we could see in the E3 2018 gameplay, there is a lot of bad blood between Royce and The Brick as Royce led a mutiny against him and became the leader of the gang. In the gameplay we could see The Brick rotting in a cage and V had the option to save him.

Their philosophy and structure is dictated by an obsession with cybertech and the urge to improve the ‘weak flesh body’. They also have a constant pursuit with otherworldly sensations especially via Brain Dance.

Their home turf is the industrial part of the Watson District and the gang have a cell based structure where each group is responsible for a different part of their criminal empire.

Depending on the task, those groups can be as large as thirty members for raids, so keep that in mind whenever engaging a maelstrom party.

Maelstrom's main revenue source comes from smuggling illegal meds and drugs, such as tri-phet, a common recreational drug in Night City. They are also known for taking hit jobs, which are executed in brutal and bizarre fashions. Victims of them are commonly found dismembered, skinner alive, drownder in wet concrete or any combination of all this.
Another significant source of Maelstrom income is the Totentanz Club, the most popular underground club for what is called dring & riot. The club is located in an abandoned factory and is a place where the members of other gangs come to party hard while listening to new-death metal music.

Any night at Totentanz that ends with less than a dozen casualties is considered a complete failure. And I always thought that the biker bar near my house was a bad place. At least now I know now where to go for target practice whenever I am near northside Watson.

There are also un-confirmed rumors that they are in the business of illegal brain dance recording. The allegedly BD tapes are of bizarre, and feature extremely disturbing content. On the more-or-less legit side of Brain dance business they offer a wide variety of Numbness tapes, experiences that place the user in a strange state of empty mind. Those tapes are quite popular among overstimulated BD users, damn, it is almost like that gulp of water to clean your mouth between a wine tasting.
