To get my hi-res shadows to work in Assassin's Creed, you are going to need Cheat Engine. This only works for the DX9 executable.
Open Cheat Engine and hook it to Assassin's Creed, after that open my Cheat Table, which you can download here:

After opening it, simple set the value for all 3 entries to whatever you wish.
The normal max shadow resolution is 1024. The highest I have been able to safely use is 4040, which is the setting I used in this video.
For HBAO+, use Nvidia Inspector and go to the set the Assassin's Creed(DX9) profile. Set the "Ambient Occlusion compatibility" value to
0x00000022
then scroll down until you see "Ambient Occlusion setting" and set it to High quality.
