Curtis Chin is an award-winning author, filmmaker, and activist whose debut memoir, Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant, offers a poignant and humorous look at growing up gay and Asian American in 1980s Detroit. A cofounder of the Asian American Writers’ Workshop and a longtime advocate for multicultural storytelling, Chin has screened his films around the world and recently premiered his documentary Dear Corky on PBS’s American Masters. His memoir, structured around the menu of his family's restaurant, is a powerful coming-of-age story rooted in community, identity, and resilience.
