Foolish one, who taught you to strive with your betters? — Nonnus, Dionysiaca

"Cursed" is a captivating melody inspired by the myth of Marsyas and his battle with Apollo. The song is an on-spot improvisation by two masters of ancient musical instruments, Theodore Koumartzis on a LUTHIEROS lyre and Yannis Pantazis on a double syrinx.
In Greek mythology, Marsyas was a satyr who found the cursed aulos of the goddess Athena, and therefore he was cursed too. According to the myth, he participated in a music battle with Apollo, the god of music, in which Marsyas masterfully played his flute, putting everyone into a frenzy, and they started dancing wildly. In his turn, Apollo played his lyre so beautifully that everyone remained still and had tears in their eyes. There are several versions of the myth, but in most of them, Marsyas loses the music battle and finds a horrible death.
Even if the song is based on a myth about a musical battle, this performance is a majestic collaboration between two ancient musical instruments, from which both come out as winners.
