A complete how to video that starts with casting on with the 72 needle cylinder setup in a mock rib configuration of 11 needles then a space (repeated).
Mock rib isn’t essential, one could simply use all the needles to make the body of the pumpkin, however by using mock rib - it makes it easier later to know where the yarn placement should be for each segment of the outer pumpkin profile.
I work this project with a long start and end yarn tail and a total of 70 rows. Scrap is worked before and after the project to hold live stitches. Off the machine both ends of the pumpkins are secured so that the live stitches don’t undo and the scrap yarn is removed. We close one end, stuff the inside and then close the other end. Reinforcing the joins we then segment the pumpkin following the mock rib lines and finish the pumpkin design itself by changing the height of the pumpkin vertically. A non-scrap begun 6 needle I-Cord is created with the heel spring in place and the stem removed with a darning needle catching each live stitch right off the needle itself. The stem extra yarn tail is woven through the stem and it’s attached to the pumpkin securely. Find this non-sock pattern and more on my website csmlove.com
