The Climbing Commons are a bunch of mums and dads, climbing enthusiasts and community members from the Stroud Commons with a vision to make climbing affordable and accessible to more people. This initial pilot will be a small, membership-only wall, which we will use as a testing ground to trial different ideas, set up systems and understand best practices in a controlled way before launching a larger campaign for a public gym.
The Climbing Commons project hopes to galvanise interest from local climbers of all abilities. In doing so, developing ideas, testing and implementing them as a community owned and run initiative. No individuals involved will profit from the initiative, to get the project this far has been driven by volunteers giving up their time for free. They are currently looking to hit a £37,800 crowdfunding goal by next Thursday 23rd May. This will enable them to secure a venue, build and operate the pilot facility for a minimum of 12 months.
