Give Hope Wings Fundraiser Kickoff! Brantford Airport
This summer (June 2023) I'm flying in a 2,086nm fundraiser for Hope Air, an organisation that helps lower income Canadians or those who live in remote areas access healthcare by providing flights (through private pilots and airlines) to larger urban centres.
If you wish to donate to Hope Air: support.hopeair.ca/give-hope-wings/glens-hangar

Now about this particular flight... This was a tough one! Toronto / Southern Ontario airspace is incredibly busy, arguably in the top three busiest airspaces in Canada (Montreal, and Ottawa would be the others).
Nav Canada who operates Canada's airspace and air traffic control services has recently taken a policy direction whereby terminal airspace is frequently closed to VFR GA traffic, AND flight following / RADAR surveillance is denied to GA traffic within 80 nautical miles of the terminal airspace. This usually happens on weekends when VFR GA traffic is heaviest. This move causes GA traffic into a dangerous position of trying to avoid terminal airspace by flying low (1500' ASL / 1000' AGL in Toronto), or by flying around the outside edge. This concentrates traffic into a narrow path and without RADAR following it increases the chances of close calls (like we had on this flight) or an eventual mid-air collision.
NAV Canada often lets us know that they take the Safety of Canada's airspace very seriously... yet their policies are directly the opposite and are creating situations that are very unsafe to VFR GA pilots.

![Major IFR Upgrade One Wire at a Time! Day 2 & 3
Join me as we tackle a major avionics upgrade on the aircraft, including removing the old wiring harness, installing a brand new Fast Stack harness, custom-fitting a new panel face from Six-Pack Aero, and mounting multiple GPS, NAV, and COMM antennas. Watch the chaos turn into clarity as we work through tight spaces, unexpected screw-ups, and creative solutions—with a whole lot of Clecos and rivets!
This project isn’t just about aviation—it’s also part of our 2025 Give Hope Wings flight across Canada to raise funds and awareness for Hope Air, a charity helping Canadians access life-saving medical care in faraway cities. Learn more about this cause and how you can help below.
💡 If youre thinking about an IFR upgrade, panel rebuild, or curious about modern avionics setups, this behind-the-scenes look is for you!
🎗️ Support HOPE AIR | Give Hope Wings 2025
This project also supports a bigger mission. In 2025, Im flying across Canada with Give Hope Wings, raising funds and awareness for Hope Air — a charity that provides free travel for Canadians who need to reach critical medical care far from home.
🇨🇦 Canada is a vast country, and while healthcare is universal, getting to treatment often isnt. Hope Air bridges that gap, and your support makes a real difference.
