Join me on a real-world cross-country flight in my Classic Restored Cessna 172B (Foxtrot Mike Victor Uniform) as I depart Oshawa, Ontario (CYOO) and head northwest across Canada. Today’s route takes me from Oshawa to Gore Bay, then on to Wawa, with Lake Superior and the rugged Canadian Shield as the backdrop.
This wasn’t the day I had planned to leave—but with changing weather systems rolling in, I decided to get airborne early. Fully loaded with gear, water, a folding bike, and everything I need for three weeks away from home, the Cessna is close to max gross weight, making for a challenging climb-out and a great real-world flying lesson.

Flying across Ontario’s north country means long stretches with no good emergency landing options, so preparedness is key. This flight is part of my journey westward to continue training toward my instrument rating—ironically, the very thing that weather may delay.
