Spring turkey is HERE — and we know most of you are reaching for the trusty 12ga. We get it. That BOOM is satisfying. But hear us out — a crossbow might be the ultimate turkey weapon, especially if you love running and gunning.

Here are 3 reasons to grab a crossbow over a shotgun this psring:

1. The challenge is the fun.
TSS gives you 60 yards with a shotgun. A crossbow? You're inside 30. Turkey vitals are tiny and unforgiving. It's harder — and that's the point.
2. Compact and lethal.

A turkey shotgun runs about 43". A crossbow? 26.5". Tucked against a tree working a bird in — compact wins. Pair a big mechanical broadhead with the right shot placement and it's lights out. (Study your turkey vitals in full strut vs. non-strut. We learned that the hard way with nothing but a fistful of feathers.)

3. A great excuse to keep hunting.
Miss? Recock silently and you're back in the game. We've missed, recocked, and had the bird still watching the decoy at 20 yards. Try that with a 12 gauge.
