Retro365 | Critical Mass - Sirius Software, 1983 - Apple II (4K) @Retro365 | Uploaded August 2023 | Updated October 2024, 22 hours ago.
A playthrough of Bob Blauschild's second game, Critical Mass, published by Sirius Software for the Apple II in 1983.
Critical Mass is an era-typical graphical text adventure but includes a couple of small arcade-like sequences (a run-away elevator, water skiing, and shooting down nuclear missiles) along with short pieces of music to set it apart from the competition. Travel to New York, Paris, Rome, London, Miami, and San Juan, solve puzzles, and figure out who is planning the nuclear destruction of major cities around the world.
On June 01, the United Nations received the message, "Good Morning. Just thought I'd drop a line to let you know that precisely at 8 pm on June 9th, I'll be destroying the world's five largest cities with thermal nuclear weapons". The delegates of the U.N. decided you were the only one with a deranged enough mind to stop this madman, so it's up to you alone to save the lives of 50 million people.
Following the playthrough, I have included a small snippet of what happens when you don't manage to destroy the fired nuclear missiles.
Enjoy and please remember to visit my blog at https://www.retro365.blog where I post new articles every month.
