A Critic and a Writer in conversation? Could it possibly be true?
Ian C. Esslemont (Novels of the Malazan Empire, Path to Ascendancy) co-creator of the Malazan World, joined me for a discussion about writing workshops, creative writing classes, signs to watch out for (both good and bad), and a discussion of the Gag Rule. We try to lay out what we think a good workshop entails.

With an undergraduate degree and a masters in the subject, as well as having taught numerous workshops and courses on creative writing, Ian C. Esslemont took the time to discuss his experiences with me and some of the things that he has learned.

There are some fantasy and Science Fiction specific points, but this is also a general discussion about creative writing classes, workshops, and approaches.

Brief Note: The internet connection was not great and combined with some technical issues, this has led to a a couple of moments in which Esslemont's side freezes or the sound dropped out. I tried to edit out the worst parts, but I do apologise for the scruffiness of this one. Plus, I have just realised that there is a typo in one of the onscreen messages, and it is too late to fix it. Sorry.
