This is one of the coolest quilts I’ve ever made. In this video, I walk through my tips and tricks for making Krista Moser’s Crimson Christmas Quilt using Moda Grunge - plus what made this construction click for me.
This quilt absolutely blew my mind from the moment I saw the pattern. The Crimson Christmas Quilt by Krista Moser is bold, dramatic, and incredibly well-designed, and pairing it with Moda Grunge added so much depth and texture to the final result.
In this video, I share my Mx Domestic-specific tips and tricks for working through the construction, improving accuracy, and keeping your sanity when dealing with lots of diamonds, small pieces, and bias edges. This is not a replacement for the pattern - Krista has an excellent tutorial of her own, and I’ve linked her work below. This video is meant to help you feel more confident as you sew.
You’ll see how I approached:
• Fabric value and color placement
• Cutting diamonds accurately (and why the nubbins matter)
• Managing bias edges and stretch
• Glue basting for crisp intersections
• Sewing for clean, sharp points in focal areas
I’ve also kitted this quilt up in my shop using Moda Grunge. Kits are listed as pre-order because they sell out quickly, but I keep restocking fabric and patterns and filling them as fast as I can.
And yes - this pattern may say “Christmas,” but this quilt is truly a winter explosion that works all year long. I’m already dreaming about a sunflower version for spring 🌻
