Criminal charges are pending for a number of Glenville High School football players accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from a Dick's Sporting Goods store in Greater Columbus.
Police said approximately 15 to 20 players were involved in the alleged theft of about $4,500 worth of merchandise last Thursday in Grove City while the team was in the area for a game. As the investigation continues, questions remain about exactly who was involved, and whether any players accused in the incident participated in Glenville's win over Olentangy Liberty the following night.
According to Grove City Law Director Stephen Smith, misdemeanor charges involving adult players will be handled by the city's municipal prosecutor's office. Juvenile cases will be referred to the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office once the investigation is complete.
Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects. The Tarblooders, who won the OHSAA Division IV state championship a year ago, defeated the Patriots 34-13 as the controversy swirled.
