Synths used: MS-1
it's interesting that whilst i have the sh-101 plugout it doesn't feel/sound as big/unstable/angry as the behringer MS-1 which is a clone of the roland sh-101 ..
Of course behringer added that FM knob thingy which when enabled can pull the sound to shreds..
i really like that and is what is the basis of this track... the only other synth uses is a akai hype synth for the sequence bass blippy thing at 1/2 way thru.
i played the blippy thing twice with different sounds/programs on the mpc one then panned them apart.
played the ms-1 into the looper of the mpc by hand.. no midi.. just me and frantic fingers!
Drums: RD-6
I had the drum loop more or less on the actual RD-6 but wanted a few more options for panning specific sounds so i sampled my RD-6 into a drum kit on the MPC-one.
Doing this also enabled me to put in a few 32nd hi hat using the seq on the mpc and also panning the open and open+closed sound to different pans
RD-6 is pretty dry fx wise with just the accented snare with added delay and hard panned handclap plus i could pan the toms now they were sampled as on the RD-6 both toms come of out 1 mono output.

Trance section:
once we hit the trance section of the tune i threw on a '909' kick from the software drum sim in the MPC One.
80's section (last part of the tune)
hand claps:
those are real hand claps i clapped in via the looper in the mpc one set to 8 bars.. let it loop 3 or 4 times to get a few hits per beat.
i also cut out 1 of those claps as a separate sample and fired that in with quantise on and balanced it up against the main loop of claps.
EQ ... Eq'd all the bass out and dropped off most of the mids to make em 'snappy'
Vocal fx breakdown -
vocals: atm 63 microphone (bought in the 80's)
EQ: all vocals have a EQ KILL plugin and the bass section is dropped off.
there's one part where the cassette player is playing in the video where i added a 'radio' eq and also vintage fx all FX are from the MPC btw.
just before the break down the vocal fx has a grain fx added that added some sort of delay break up and stereo feel and is great as the 2 synths held down and tailing off at the same time have FM dialed into the adsr to break up the synths as they fade out before the 90's trance kicks in
last part vocals
.. not really happy with the last part of the vocals really as my voice isn't great at the best of times!
the last bit of 'bring back your smile' is close recorded and also whilst in the looper i added a whisper pass too.
Vocoder:
Roland JDXi .. usually i plumb in my proper mic to use with the vocoder in the jdxi.. but was too lazy this time!
Bass Guitar and Electric Guitar
bass and guitars went thru my boss katana 100w set to a crunchy channel/sound. rec out jack to the mpc in
BASS:
added compressor in the mpc one when recording
added phaser after the recording dialed in the 'stone' phaser type to mimic the 80's new order/cure/duran duran sound and feel.
Guitar:
harlety benton (£65) strat copy
boss katana amp on crunchy again , a little delay from, the katana it has a tap tempo button to time it to your track
double tracked the chord (chords! .. ha ha.. me on a guitar.. 2 strings! ..aka ''chords'') 😂
I am NOT a guitarist.. used the clip on tuner to 'find' where the notes i needed were!
