What are credences?
In epistemology, philosophers often distinguish between belief and credence (degrees of confidence). Some philosophers argue that credences are just probabilistic beliefs (see here: youtu.be/q_DJCfkGjfU). In this talk, I argue that belief and credence are importantly different mental attitudes.
I focus on cases where people have credences in statements they barely comprehend. I argue that these cases create problems for “belief-first” theories of credence.
