Geraldine DeRuiter's book, "If You Can't Take the Heat: Tales of Food, Feminism, and Fury," is a collection of humorous and insightful essays on food and feminism. The book features various stories about DeRuiter's experiences in gastronomy, from her scathing commentary about the pervasiveness of misogyny in the food world, sparked by celebrity chef Mario Batali's apology letter for sexual harassment allegations, to her adventures in meal-planning for the apocalypse. The book also recounts DeRuiter's experiences with anger, or 'hanger,' and her inadvertent creation of an international incident following a negative restaurant review.
