After the album trilogy was completed (Hell Frost, Fragile Immortality & Lust and Loathing) Chinese artist Kaung Hong was 2015 yet again appointed to do the upcoming EP/ALBUM & Single artworks for the intended new The Unguided trilogy tied into “The Book of The Unguided, Canto II” story.
Fun facts (Potential spoilers ahead if you haven't read the story):
- The right side of the illustration takes place when the King, Queen & Prince reaches Zion in the beginning of Canto II, Act IV, effectively breaking their exile. The left side is more an ending illustration of Canto I portraying the dark angels being hatched.
- The animals on the album is representing 3 Swedish counties (historical provinces). “Hälsingland” = lynx, Jämtland = elk (eurasia), Värmland = wolf. These are all very symbolic animals of Sweden, which is the bands origin country.
- At 00:07 you can see how Hong tweaked the King’s mount from a Wapiti (Elk) to a Eurasian elk. A slight misunderstanding. These kind of elks only inhabit North America and Eastern Asia and are nowhere to be seen in Sweden. 00:12 you can see how the wolf’s color is slightly changed to look more like the Swedish breed.
- The character with the staff is the first illustration of “The Captain” from Canto I.
- 00:29 You can see how a long tongue is added to the dark angel to more reflect their form pre-metamorphosis.
- The bow on the King’s back is called "Death’s Sting ".
- The fetus (from “The Heartbleed Bug” artwork) representing the middle shape of The Unguided symbol and the lynx rider is the two first illustrations ever made of the Prince.
- The “Legendary” artwork, seeing the song lyrically is a retrospective of the former trilogy, is portraying the King attired in his War Crown of Victory from “Fragile Immortality”. This artwork was done 2017 when there was a hasty decision to release 2 digital singles instead of 1.
- “The Heartbleed Bug” artwork is inspired by J.A.Aranguren’s (Eden Fire, Inherit The Earth, Deathwalker) “Fallen Angels – Extinction” draft back from 2004.
