![WyzAnt: Drew Geant & Mike Weishuhn [Princeton Entrepreneurs]
Drew Geant and Mike Weishuhn are cofounders of WyzAnt, the leading tutoring marketplace on the web.
In much the same vein as Uber or Angie’s List, Wyzant is “building a national company that functions as a hyper-local marketplace, offering students an easy way to find and connect with tutors in a range of subjects,” according to TechCrunch.
Geant and Weishuhn have bootstrapped an enterprise that originated on a kitchen table purchased from the Salvation Army into a company with 90 employees between its two offices in Chicago and Sam Francisco. Students and tutors do millions of hours of lessons through WyzAnt every year. In early 2014, Wyzant raised $21.5 million from Accel for global and mobile expansion.
The cofounders say they share similar views about conflict.
“I would say conflict has been the source of some of our greatest thinking and ideas and decision-making,” says Geant. “From day one Mike and I have always battled, and usually what comes out of that battle is the right choice. And 30 minutes after the battle we’re back to being totally aligned.”
Says Weishuhn: “Conflict can be either unifying and help you get towards where you want to go or it can completely tear a company apart. Being able to manage that conflict, and making sure it comes from the proper motivations, is really important. Drew and I trust that we have Wyzant’s best interests at heart.“
Geant and Weishuhn started Wyzant shortly after graduating from Princeton in 2005. Geant majored in economics. Weishuhn majored in computer science.
