Courante in d minor for harpsichord by Louis Couperin {~1626 - 1661}
Performed by Dale Carr in the Pelstergasthuiskerk in Groningen on 7 October 1989 on a harpsichord built in 1975 by Hendrik Broekman, modeled on an instrument by Michel Richard, 1688
Louis Couperin's courantes are energetic dance pieces in triple meter making free use of varying subdivisions of the measure, often in different voices simultaneously.
The harpsichord is disposed with the 4' register on the upper keyboard, which also plays the front 8' register. This combination is heard in the repeats. Both 8' registers are playable from the lower keyboard; this combination is heard the 1st time through each section. {The disposition of Richard's instrument is not known.}
