Totally Vanilla Gaming proudly presents County Crossing's full tour. This is one of my favorite Settlements, mainly because it's open and adaptable to many designs... but you know me, I play the game as a method actor!
Meaning I don't trash everything that's there, and use dozens of mods to build a magnificent structure very much at odds with the setting. I can admire the achievement, but it's not how I game. I don't use mods at all.
I play this game "realistically" as possible. I build as if I really was the Minuteman General trying to rebuild civilization from literal scrap. So, every Settlement is believable, every Settlement has food, water and defenses, not necessarily every comfort... and every Settlement with a big enough tree gets a treehouse! (Too bad the kids will never go up in them!)
I have slowly built up all my Settlements from nothing, adding a bit here and there, until I have a small town with complete walls, adequate defenses, food, water, shelter and beds. I always attempt to build walls, if merely for the human psychological need. Face it, what would settlers prefer? A place without walls? Or with?
I don't believe it's mere roleplay, though, for walls serve a tactical advantage, because it forces enemies to assault your gates. This frees you from having to patrol/fortify the whole unenclosed region. Again, if you mod, this isn't as much of a concern.
At the final stage, I furnish and decorate with the extras. I try to put a unique feature in every place, but County Crossing is one that now sits on the raw edge of a yellow settlement limit, so it's where I call it quits and say it's done. I may delete and add something later, but this one is ready for an audience.
Totally Vanilla Gaming never uses a single mod- only add-ons and DLCs. What you see here uses a broad mix from all of my installed content, but it's almost all standard- I think there's one painting and two posters from Home Decor and a Nuka Quantum bed from Nuka Cola Collector.
