On Thursday, 19th April 2018 the trustees from Coundon and Leeholme Community Centre visited The 1950s Town construction site to see the progress being made on the replica Leasingthorne Colliery Welfare Hall and Community Centre. During their visit one of the five glulam arches was being carefully manoeuvred into position, which will form the main frame of the building.

The Leasingthorne Colliery Welfare Hall and Community Centre will be the first building to open in The 1950s Town - part of the Remaking Beamish project.

Thanks to the money raised by National Lottery players, the Remaking Beamish project has been awarded £10.9million by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).
