Yucatec Mayas of the village of Xaibe dancing the U Pool K'ek'en (la Cabeza del Cochino).Dancers are done Juan Tzul and his sister Nubia Tzul. The Yucatec Mayas are one of the 3 Maya groups found in Belize . They are mostly found in the Corozal,Orange Walk and Cayo district. Most came from southern states of Mexico but there were many Yucatec Mayas living by the rio Bravo and Yalbac area before the massive migration of 1840's because of the Guerra Social Maya(Caste War). The Yucatec Mayas resistance againts the British and the Spanish finish at 1930's when the last Maya rebels sign peace or were driven away from there land. Today Many Yucatec Mayas are cane farmers,milperos,teachers,police men etc. Their native language is Maya T'aan also called "Maya,Yucatec Maya or Yucateco" but today most have exchange thier native language to Spanish and English. The Yucatec Mayas depending on the individual may identify also as "Maya,Masewal,Maya Yucateco,Maya Masewal, indio or Maya Mestizo". Many traditions of their Maya ancestors are still practice like Hanal Pixan, Cha Chaac primicias and their Folklore like the Xtabai,Nukux Tat(tata duende),Waay K'eek'en and the Alux stories are still told.
