This is my band Cornerstone playing on 6th Feb at Frisby Village Hall, in deepest middle England. Great crowd, great fun, great night! Well done Karen for organising it all - you are a star.
It was a fantastic night - there was a teenage support band, a drum duet (me and teenage George - Hi George), a stonking curry, and I even appeared in full Gorilla costume and did the whole Cadbury's advert thing. Mmmmmrrrrp.
'Hey Joe' is an extremely demanding drum part, as you will know if you have seen my cover of the original on here - in which case you will have heard me going on about the brilliance of Mitch Mitchell already.
I always try and play the opening few minutes, before the first guitar solo, as close to note for note as I am capable of - Mitch's fills are perfect for the lyrics, and any other fills just sound wrong. This is probably the best version I have managed live - and it's on camera. I knew it as soon as we finished playing the song, and that's why I look so pleased with myself at the end and give my own leg a high five!
I guess the guitar part is a tad tricky too - what do I know though? - anyway, Dave seems to play it bloody well from where I am sitting! And I reckon his singing is fantastic on this! We only recently added the backing 'humming' to this cover, and it seems to work really well - nice one Mr. Jones!
The bass playing might be quite good too, but I can't tell because I am too overwhelmed by the fact Ivor has put on a loud waistcoat for the gig. The ponce.
We are playing in public here for the first time with our new Bose L1 Model II PA System. It cost an amount of money that I am too scared to divulge. We have three systems on stage - one for bass/vocals, one for guitar/vocals, and one for drums. Note that we have no on-stage monitors. You can make out one of the speakers between Ivor and Dave. It's incredible, but we are still trying to get it properly figured out. Anyway, the drums did sound awesome, I am told, and that of course is the main thing!!!
Dave Tait is our singer and guitarist.
Ivor Jones is our bass player and backing singer.
I got the whole gig on camcorder, so I will upload more of the night over the coming days / weeks. You might be pleased to know that Radar Love will be one of those videos :-)
Oh, and the Gorilla is on video too - shall I upload it?
I wonder why the view counts have frozen at 301? Odd.
