I have avoided recording this song by Phil Ochs, because it seemed like it referred to a USA of the past, and that maybe the age of 'Bay of Pigs' style unprovoked invasions for purely financial gain were no longer the way the country operated.
I the case of #venezuela there are no hidden agendas here. Trump has been upfront about the violent overthrow of the country's leader and an intent to profit from the natural resources of that sovereign nation. They aren't event helping to instate a properly elected leader, just deciding to 'run the country' themselves for a while.
2026 is off to a horrifying start, not just for the people of Venezuela, but for the world.
