In 1999, as mankind prepared to enter a new millennium, Hypnospace was the height of cool. Not only did it allow you to surf a network of interesting and creative pages, but it also operated as you slept. Such amazing technology has only slipped into obscurity today thanks to the infamously tragic Mindcrash event and, since, we've had to be content with dreams as our only source of sleeptime entertainment.
When it was thriving, Hypnospace was home to a number of fleeting cultural phenomenons. Everyone who grew up in the 90s remembers Coolpunk; the icy, soda-fuelled musical genre that froze all our hearts as Y2K loomed. Of course, we all know what happened to Fre3zer, but I never stopped believing in the power of Coolpunk. Sure, I got into the Fungus Scene and still like to drip when I can, but this is my reminder of a simpler time, when all you've gotta gotta worry about is being colder than the rest, and making sure to chill it right.

![THE SOUND TEST #16 - Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle (w/Grant Kirkhope) [COMPOSER INTERVIEW/PODCAST]
In 2017, Davide Soliani brought two of gamings most successful franchises together into a truly madcap marriage. Made up of Mario, perhaps the most famous face in the industry, and Ubisofts Raving Rabbids, who have dominated the party genre for a decade, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a turn-based love letter to each. As an important release for the Nintendo Switch, it demanded strength in every department. Therefore, the legendary Grant Kirkhope was a natural choice to take on its original soundtrack. Armed with a full orchestra and the determination to live up to such composers as Koji Kondo, Grant wrote a gorgeous, classical score. Together, we take a look at its production process, and some of the philosophies behind it.

![THE SOUND TEST Bonus - WipeOut (w/Tim Wright aka CoLD SToRAGE) [VISUAL VERSION]
An alternate version of my BONUS interview with Tim Wright, also known as CoLD SToRAGE, with incredible visualisations by Laundry_Hamper!
Tim has worked on several racing games in his time, but is possibly best known in the genre for his original WipeOut music. I spoke to him about his audio and composition for various racers in this expansive interview, which approaches two hours in length. Due to the level of detail Tim fit into the conversation, I eventually decided to release it as its own BONUS edition (instead of including it in the full ST2 Racing Special).
In addition to discussing the WipeOut series, our talk also includes insight on: Formula One, Thunder Truck Rally, Supertruck Racing, TT Superbike Legends, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, Slipstream GX, Table Top Racing, Pacer, No Escape, Krazy Ivan, Microcosm, the well-known Puggs in Space Amiga demo and more!
All music by CoLD SToRAGE, except:
Chemical Beats - The Chemical Brothers [Exit Planet Dust]
P.E.T.R.O.L. - Orbital [In-Sides]
Loops of Fury - The Chemical Brothers [Loops of Fury]
Afro Ride - Leftfield (feat. DJUM DJUM) [Leftism]
Know Where to Run - Orbital [The Middle of Nowhere]

![ST2 -#14- LucasArts: History (w/George Sanger, Clint Bajakian & Peter McConnell) [INTERVIEW/PODCAST]
Founded in 1982, LucasArts are among the best known and best loved game developers of the past four decades. Following on from my previous episode, this podcast is the second part of a dedicated LucasArts triple-bill. This time, I explore the company’s history, with returning guests Clint Bajakian and Peter McConnell. While Clint and Peter both proved invaluable to LucasArts through the 90s, and beyond, it’s an honour to also be joined by George “The Fat Man” Sanger, a true VGM veteran with many more appearances to come in this season.
