SERIES STARTS NOVEMBER 1st 2019
Russell Shaw is set to appear three times throughout season two, covering his time at Bullfrog Productions, Lionhead's Black & White and the entire Fable series.
An incredible talent with nearly 30 years of experience in the industry, Russell provided one of my most insightful interviews yet. This trailer provides just one small peek into our long conversation, concentrating on his very first significant role in VGM - 1993's Syndicate.

![ST2 -#14- LucasArts: History (w/George Sanger, Clint Bajakian & Peter McConnell) [INTERVIEW/PODCAST]
Founded in 1982, LucasArts are among the best known and best loved game developers of the past four decades. Following on from my previous episode, this podcast is the second part of a dedicated LucasArts triple-bill. This time, I explore the company’s history, with returning guests Clint Bajakian and Peter McConnell. While Clint and Peter both proved invaluable to LucasArts through the 90s, and beyond, it’s an honour to also be joined by George “The Fat Man” Sanger, a true VGM veteran with many more appearances to come in this season.

![THE SOUND TEST Trailer - Tim Wright (aka CoLD SToRAGE) [WipeOut & more!]
An extract from an upcoming BONUS interview with Tim Wright, also known as CoLD SToRAGE!
Tim has worked on several racing games in his time, but is possibly best known in the genre for his original WipeOut music. I spoke to him about his audio and composition for various racers in an expansive interview, which approaches two hours in length. Due to the level of detail Tim fit into the conversation, I eventually decided to release it as its own BONUS edition (instead of including it in the full ST2 Racing Special).
In this clip, you can hear a great little story about recording monster trucks for the PS1s Thunder Truck Rally. In addition to discussing the WipeOut series and Thunder Truck Rally, our full talk also includes insight on: Formula One, Supertruck Racing, TT Superbike Legends, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, Slipstream GX, Table Top Racing, Pacer, No Escape, Krazy Ivan, Microcosm and even the well-known Puggs in Space Amiga demo!

![SOUND TEST #06 - Donkey Kong Country (w/David Wise, Eveline Novakovic & Grant Kirkhope) [INTERVIEW]
Donkey Kong Country is home to some of VGMs most iconic and enduring tracks. From its first game to its very latest, Tropical Freeze, music has been as important to the series as the tight platforming it scores. Over the years, a number of top composers have made their mark on DKC — including David Wise, Eveline Novakovic and Grant Kirkhope. All three can be heard in this episode, which covers over twelve separate games!
NOTE: Yep, I mispronounce lauded in this; rather than have it keep me up at night, Ill just leave this little note. Thanks for listening!

HIGH-QUALITY DOWNLOAD:

All of Steve Colletts music for Speed Kings!
Steve Collett (aka Steve Rockett) is well-known in the VGM world for a string of interesting SNES and Game Boy soundtracks. But, he later worked extensively on racing games, kicking off with his band - V8 Pack - contributing licensed music to MotoGP: Ultimate Racing Technology 2. Unlike his rock and metal inspired tracks for MotoGP, and eventually Crash n Burn, he took a more electronic route for 2003s Speed Kings. Matching the intensity of the game itself, Steves Speed Kings OST is a energetic journey through a wide variety of sounds.
1. Chemical Strain (0:00)
2. Speed Kings (2:26)
3. Hambusters (3:42)
4. Live and Let Break (6:24)
5. Across the Sea (8:43)
6. Country Beats (10:57)
7. Funk Express (13:18)
8. Brass Beats (15:39)
9. Bridge Spin (18:07)
10. Mountain Pass (21:28)
11. Fresh Air (24:00)
12. Death Valley (25:55)
13. Dune Drive (29:11)
All tracks composed and performed by Steve Collett (aka Steve Rockett).
This album is available on disc two of a four disc compilation - The Collett Collection - which brings together Steve Colletts music for six different driving games, and more!

![Grabthars Hammer [ONE-NIGHT VGM]
The first in a (hopefully) ongoing series of one-night compositions.
This piece is heavily inspired by Amiga MODs; particularly the work of Ben Daglish and TDK. Although clearly made in a modern DAW, and using all sorts of effects that were impossible on the Amiga, I did attempt to bare the four monophonic channels limit in mind throughout the whole piece. Theres a lot of layering going on, but really this could be convincingly translated to the Amiga!
Notably, except for some hi-hats creeping in at the end, I was particular eager to have a single, simple snare as the only percussion. There arent even any kicks; just two basses!

![SOUND TEST 2 -#13- LucasArts: Star Wars (w/Paul Webb, Clint Bajakian & Peter McConnell) [INTERVIEW]
No movie franchise has made a bigger impact on gaming than Star Wars, which boasts well over a hundred separate releases for practically every system that has ever existed. Adaptations of the much loved original trilogy, and its later sequels, have grown in sophistication with each passing year.
Since LucasArts was founded in 1982 by George Lucas himself, its connection to Star Wars runs deep. Therefore, their releases have always been celebrated as authentic and rich expansions on established lore, through loving storylines, varied gameplay and, naturally, incredible audio.
To help explore the franchise’s early days, I spoke to Paul Webb – best known for his work on Super Star Wars. From there, you can’t discuss the further growth of LucasArts through the 90s, and on into the naughties, without Clint Bajakian – and Peter McConnell – who both also composed for Indiana Jones. Between the four of us, we’ll cover the sound of Star Wars adaptations from the Nintendo Entertainment System up to the PlayStation 1 and PCs, when CD audio took over from chiptune.
