What does equality actually require? Throughout this series, we’ve seen how American women used the principles of the Declaration of Independence to push for change and secure the right to vote. But that victory didn’t settle the question. It opened a new one.

In this final video, we look at the debate between Alice Paul and Florence Kelley. Paul argued that equality means identical treatment under the law. Kelley believed real biological and social differences should shape laws that are equal in outcome. From workplace protections to questions like the draft, their disagreement still shapes how we think about equality today.
