“Computer City Zenon” or more simply “Zenon” is one of the games that belongs to my favorite category “short, but hard as hell”. It’s a tough game, but I still managed to record it in two days.
You’re a robot that advances automatically. All that you have to do is to shoot at enemy ships and cannons that toss bombs and bullets at you.
If you enter the side doors, you’re invulnerable to enemy attacks for at least 10 seconds, but not against enemies, so be careful. Once reached the end of the map, destroy the base to win the game (one hit is enough).
If you shoot at two specific doors (or more?), you get a 4.000 point bonus once displayed the Kure-Eiji logo.
Well, I’m really amazed I amnaged to complete this game without losing any life. I didn’t care about losing lives, what was important was to complete it and nothing else, but after managing to beat it deathlessly, I’m happier than usual.
Game repeats all over again after winning. I tried a second loop just to see if difficulty increases and it didn’t, but it’s fair, since it is already difficult just from the first loop. Only after running out of lives, game sends you back to title screen.
I played the X1 version, but a PC 8801 version of this game exists as well.
For this Sharp X1 game, follow these steps:
1) You need to load the HuBASIC CZ-8CB01 ROM first, otherwise the game won’t run;
2) load the game ROM and rewind;
3) type in “LOAD”;
4) after the game is loaded, type in “RUN”;
5) In the “Joystick or Keyboard” screen, select the kind of command you wanna use to play this game by typing UPPERCASE J or K letters, otherwise game doesn’t load the title screen.
6) Enjoy the game.
