The latest Archfiend deck for the December 2022 format! This is a Chess Archfiend Deck Profile. That's right everybody, a Chess Archfiend deck. But Archfiend Guy, Chess Archfiends are terrible, why build them? While it is somewhat true, the older chess themed Archfiends are gimmicky and outdated, they have some qualities about them that make them shine:
- Their dice roll gimmick
- Their stats
- Their levels
Having a dice roll mechanic means they are summonable from the deck using Dice Dungeon and Dimension Dice! This lets us turbo out certain Chess Archfiends for xyz plays and general combo'ing. The negate and destroy is nice, but not to be relied upon.
This has been a really fun deck to build and run! I feel like this is innovative as the other Chess Archfiend decks floating around rely on beatdown through equip spells, gimmicky That Six interactions and the odd Pandemonium search. This build is a little faster and actually puts out interruptions and has Chaos Archfiend as a win condition.
We still use standard Archfiend cards such as the Dark Spirits and Archfiend Empress, but the main purpose of the deck is to use the Chess Archfiends for xyz plays.

Although I say competitive, everything is relative! You're not beating Tearlaments with this deck, but it can put up a decent fight against lower tier and rogue strategies. If you wanted to spice things up a bit, you could shift some cards around and run some floodgates such as Rivalry of Warlords and Skill Drain, both excellent floodgates for any Archfiend deck.
