News story about a meeting of the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (COMECON) in Prague, Czechoslovakia. This meeting and the narrator's description involve a "reformed" version of this East Bloc mind-set that ties in with Gorbachev's Perestroika efforts in the late 80s. The effect is stultifying, I guess the pre-reformed lingo was worse? As bad as US television can be I'm glad I wasn't subjected to steady diet of this. I'm not sure why but a lot of East Bloc & 3rd World news stories are free of "sound-bites" and instead rely non wall-to-wall narration.
