Coming out at work can be scary, but for Family Equality CEO Darra Gordon, it allowed her to bring her better self to work each day.
“ As queer people, there's masking that happens, right? You present yourself in a certain way, or if they find this out about me in the workplace, I don't know if that's gonna impact me, my work or how people will think about me. So when you're at work, you're just all about work,” she says.
Shedding this mask gave Darra the ability to show up fully at work, and even led to her current role at Family Equality, a non-profit built to support queer families at the community and federal level.
“ For the first time in my life, I brought my full self to work and it felt great…when you bring your full self, you bring everything. I bring my family, I talk about my family. I bring my personal life and you bring your better version of yourself.”
