I get headshot assignments a few times a year but I've been shooting them for a very long time. Over the years I have picked up things on how to make my life easier by working smarter as I get older. I had a great assignment in ATL a couple weeks ago and I wanted to share with you the process and result of that shoot. I use FJ Westcott FJ400 strobes for most all of what I do in terms of lighting with strobes. They offer consistent light pop to pop, they have daylight balanced modeling lights (5500k), they pack a powerful punch (more output than Godox AD600Pro), the batteries last the longest of any brand I've tried, the triggers never false, they work with ALL camera brands as long as you choose either the Sony trigger or universal one, and most important, if something goes wrong, you can call their 800 number in Ohio (not Kowloon Bay) and get help during normal business hours in Central Time. The support we all get from Westcott is famous.
Enough on the lights. I use the Sony A7CII for EVERYTHING I shoot except for sports. I love this little tiny and lightweight camera. The new Sony FE85mm f/1.4GMII lens is amazingly sharp and plenty fast for fast action capture. It's a lock for doing portraits and headshots. Easy choice and the combination is lightweight and easy on your shoulder and back even when shooting all day long.
